The 12th Korea-Middle East Cooperation Forum 2015-10-27


The 12th Korea-Middle East Cooperation Forum was successfully held in Seoul, Korea on 26 October 2015 which was co-hosted by Korea-Arab Society, Jeju Peace Institute and Arab Thought Forum and sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea.

In his keynote speech at the Forum, Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Yun Byung-se presented "Involved", "Innovative" and "interactive" as key words for cooperative partnership between Korea and the Middle East.

The Forum under the theme "Partnership for Peace, Prosperity and People: Expanding the Horizons of Korea-Middle East Cooperation" featured three sessions (security challenges, economic cooperation and future society). The Forum was attended by 250 people including incumbent and former high-level officials, politicians, business people, scholars and students from Korea and 33 different countries.



In the first session, participants analyzed and made policy recommendations regarding major security issues in the regions including the refugee crisis in Syria and the Iran nuclear deal's implications for North Korean nuclear issue. In the second session participants discussed new challenges and opportunities in the Korea-Middle East economic cooperation, including ways for financial cooperation in the era of low oil prices and cooperations in healthcare. In the third session participants made presentations and held discussions on women's rights and youth empowerment.

The Korea-Middle East Cooperation Forum furthers the development of bilateral relations by improving mutual understanding and building a network among the participants.
