Korean Speech Contest held on 10 May 2013 2013-05-16





The first Korean Speech Contest was held on 10 May 2013 at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.
Its objectives were to raise interests in Korean language and culture among Arabs who are currently studying and living in Korea.

 

After a preliminary round on 3 May, 12 finalists competed for the grand prize on 10 May. The finalists spoke on different themes either about 'common and different features of Korean and Arab culture'
or 'unforgettable experience in Korea'  for three minutes and each had a Q&A time with the judging panel after the speech.

 

The finalists gave such a vivid description on their speech that the audience were all captivated by their stories. The stories included being scolded by an elderly Korean man with his strong scent of perfume on a bus, getting a hard time on his first visit to the Korean dry sauna and going to Psy's concert.

 

Many attended the competition including H.E. Mr. Mohamed Ali Nafti, Ambassador of Tunisia to Korea and Dr. Hesham Khadawardi, Cultural Attaché of Saudi Arabia to Korea to cheer the finalists.

 

Each finalists showed an outstanding performance and after highly competitive period of two hours, the winners of the competition were selected as follows.

 

First place: Ms Abeer Hamdy Amer Ebrahim (Egypt)

Second place: Mr Alsaeed Abdulmohsen Abdullah M (Saudi Arabia)

Third place: Ms Hasan Esraa Fawzi Mahmoud (Jordan)
